Valérie, maker of second lives
Based a stone's throw from Granville, in the bay of the Mont-Saint-Michel, Valérie Elloy is a self-taught maker who loves taking a material or an existing object and imagining a new life for it. Making new from old, driven by a passion for beauty and ethics, is her guiding motto.
Head in the vintage
Passionate about the 1970s, the Happy seventies, I spend a good part of my free time roaming flea markets and searching online for beloved finds from that carefree, light-hearted era. Furniture, décor, tableware, small appliances, wallpaper… My home has transformed with each discovery.
As my wardrobe is my second passion, I naturally linked the two. Uninhibited creativity, flowing fabrics, an explosion of colours, patterns each more varied and psychedelic than the last…. The 1970s are perhaps the decade that left the most lasting mark on fashion. The Seventies codes regularly influence designers. A trend that has grown in recent years, with a breeze of Flower power blowing ever stronger over ready-to-wear collections. But why buy copies, often made in less-than-ethical conditions on the other side of the world, when with a bit of digging you can find authentic pieces steeped in history? Just like the decoration of my house, my wardrobe has also been completely transformed.
Vintage, fashion… a link still had to be found to satisfy, in a single project, my latest passion: creating. Restoring old furniture, painting, sewing… I have always loved making things by hand. It was by chancing upon the work of an Australian artist who makes hats from bath towels that it clicked. This object could bring together my three passions. Using the diversity of a Vintage raw material to give free rein to my imagination and craft a fashion accessory that is necessarily one of a kind.
This is how the first Galurin was born.
